Job Summary: This position is responsible for the overall Human Resources functions of the Church. Duties include employee relations, performance reviews, managing and administering employee benefits, new employee orientation, annual benefits open enrollment, maintenance of employee records, facilitating new hires and terminations, periodic review and revision of employee-related policies, and compliance with all related local, state, and federal laws. Performs duties as established to meet the organizational mission, vision, and values of Forest Hill Church. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (includes, but not limited to) Collaborate with leadership to develop, implement, and oversee training and development needs for individuals, groups, and staff-wide needs. Collaborate with leadership to continually evaluate, develop, and assess macro and micro-cultures. Provide and foster a working environment in which the employees are able to comfortably engage in the employee relations process. Partner with the leadership to advise on many issues that have an impact on staff, ranging from expansion to succession planning and organizational restructuring. Establish and maintain HR “best practices” in the context of a local church. Ensure alignment of HR strategy to Forest Hill mission, vision, and values. Oversee employee relations issues, ranging from coaching and feedback to terminations. Collaborate with leaders to ensure organizational health and mitigate employee relations issues. Continually review, recommend, draft and update revisions of policies and procedures, including staff guide. Ensure policies are implemented, executed, and adhered to. Ensure corrective action processes and terminations adhere to state and federal laws. Manage all staff recruiting processes, including job descriptions, external and internal recruiting/hires, partnership with leadership in panels and interview processes, attracting new talent, and new hire orientation. Manage performance review/coaching and feedback process, adjusting and offering development opportunities based on individual, group, and staff-wide needs and trends. Continually utilize technology to continually improve HR functions and processes. Responsible for the establishment and maintenance of an effective and efficient employee benefit programs. Serve as a benefits resource to employees, handling issues as they arise. Monitor and review benefits plans, maintain contact with broker on a regular basis to insure prompt resolution to daily issues. Work with Broker to schedule and oversee open enrollment periods for company sponsored benefits Oversee Leave and FMLA processes, including STD and LTD, to ensure compliance with local and state laws. Ensure employees are aware of their rights, receive and complete paperwork and submissions for coverage, where approved. Ensure the church is adhering to all local, state and federal laws as it relates to EEO, FLSA, HIPPA, FMLA, Workers Compensation, OSHA, USERRA, etc. Ensure labor law posters are posted and visible to all employees to access and review. Evaluate employee assessment tools related to interviewing assessments and ongoing staff development. Oversee the HR budget, including but not limited to staff recruitment, relocation, staff care and training, background checks, salary and benefits. Continually evaluate salary and benefits, recommending adjustments as needed to ensure highest and best use of gifts. Skills / Qualities / Knowledge Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree Human Resources. Master’s Degree in Human Resources preferred. PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SCHRM-SCP or related certification strongly preferred. Minimum of 5+ years of progressive experience in human resources areas: employee relations, benefits, staffing, organizational development. Experience in staff training and development (L&D). Experience working or volunteering for a non-denominational church. The duties of this position are often driven by deadlines. The ability to prioritize workflow, juggle multiple projects at once and change directions in mid-project is essential. This position requires a general knowledge of Human Resources policies and practices with emphasis on Compensation and Benefits including State and Federal regulations including FLSA, FMLA, ERISA, IRS, DOL, COBRA, ACA, OSHA, and HIPAA requirements. Experience with the administration of benefits plans and automated payroll systems a plus. Ability to learn new software programs required in the administration of various benefits programs and their respective report writing systems. Ability to create, review and revise Human Resources policies and procedures as necessary The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing is essential as is the ability to establish and maintain effective and productive working relationships with both internal and external clients. The ability to communicate benefits changes to employees in an easy to understand manner. Ability to identify areas of need, and facilitate staff training and development workshops and training sessions as needed.
