Water System Technician Salary: $55,111.23 - $70,322.73 Annually Overview Under direction, performs skilled, specialized work in the construction, maintenance, repair, and modification of municipal facilities and equipment in one or more Public Works Divisions; to provide technical advice on special plumbing, mechanical, carpentry, or welding problems; demonstrates a full understanding of all applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties; performs other related duties as required. Primary Responsibilities The Water System Technician is a journey level class. Work involves the responsibility for technical tasks relating to construction, repair, and maintenance of City facilities, infrastructures and equipment in a variety of general or specialized trades, including building maintenance and welding. Positions assigned to this classification are expected to perform with a high degree of independence and may be responsible for project supervision of one or more less experienced workers. Minimum Qualifications A high school diploma or equivalent At least two (2) years full time experience in one or more building trades -OR- five (5) years full time experience in semiskilled building trades work Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license or equivalent from another state Possession of a Grade II or higher Water Distribution Operator Certification from the State of California, or equivalent certification from another state or government entity that is transferrable Additional Information Only those applicants who meet the qualification standards of this position by the application filing deadline will be allowed to participate in the examination process. The examination process may consist of the following parts: Application Package Review (Qualifying only): Only the most qualified applicants, based upon the information provided on the application will be invited to participate in the examination processes. Oral Exam: 100% weight value. Candidates must earn a score of 70% or higher to be considered for the eligibility list.
