To quote a popular saying at TNC, "you'll join for the mission, and you'll stay for the people."WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHERDriven by both urgency and hope, the Indigenous Partnerships Manager (IPM) will engage western science-based approaches, traditional ecological knowledge, and authentic, respectful relationships with collaborators to advance conservation programs, plans and methods on large-scale geographic areas that are culturally appropriate and meet mutual conservation goals of the New Mexico Field Office (NMFO) and relevant indigenous nations and their members. Working primarily in New Mexico, the IPM will build on existing partnerships and projects with TNC colleagues leading forest and fire management, freshwater conservation and management, conservation lands, and climate change mitigation and adaption programs, and other exciting work. The IPM will work to expand TNC's role as a trusted conservation partner with New Mexico's tribal nations, and will serve as part of an extended team working in North America to implement the Conservancy's Indigenous Right Relations (IRR) Strategy. In partnership with other TNC staff the IPM works and communicates with diverse groups of people, including government officials (tribal, federal, and state), advisory and other Boards of Directors, partner organizations, collaborative groups, and the public.May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOUWant to help save the planet while working in partnership with the indigenous nations who have stewarded this land since time immemorial? At TNC we strive to embody a philosophy of Work that You Can Believe in and where you can know you are making a difference every day.We're looking for someone with experience working for or in partnership with sovereign indigenous nations on conservation or resource management projects, and who has an in-depth understanding of tribal governance, culture, and concerns in New Mexico. The candidate should have strong communication and collaboration skills. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to and shape all the New Mexico business unit conservation programs including supporting our forests, freshwater, lands, indigenous partnerships, and climate strategies.WHAT YOU'LL BRING BA/BS, MA/MS, law or business degree and 5 years' experience in natural resource management or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working with tribal natural resource agencies. Experience working with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, US Forest Service, State Government, and Tribal Governments. Experience developing partnerships with diverse groups, including but not limited to tribes, other conservation organizations, government entities, corporations and foundations, local communities. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate's actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience.
