If you are adaptable, responsive, love customers and really want to make a difference, we want to hear from you!As the Large Farm Underwriting Leader, you are responsible for the revenue and loss performance of the national Large Farm underwriting team within Agribusiness. You'll be responsible for the direct oversight for the largest and most complex accounts within the Farm & Ranch division. You'll be responsible for building and driving strategic vision and priorities. You'll also need to utilize strong leadership and organizational management skills. Job Description Key Responsibilities: Develops strategic and business plans; identifies operational opportunities and efficiencies. Translates strategic plans into organizational direction. Creates business plans, goals, budget and timelines to meet or exceed company objectives. Directs associates and provides performance management, salary planning and administration, organizational planning, hiring and placement, and disciplinary actions. Manages composition of overall portfolio to achieve favorable results. Approves accounts which exceed underwriter and manager authority due to level of complexity, premium, class of business or coverage provided for specific lines of business. Participates in discussions with reinsurers, per department guidelines, verifying the appropriate use of reinsurance used by specific lines of business, including various treaty and facultative reinsurance. Monitors and manages catastrophe aggregates as they relate to the specified line of business and territory or region. Recommends and implements necessary changes to guidelines and procedures to maintain and comply with company thresholds. Analyzes complex scenarios and develops innovative creative solutions. Exceptional negotiation and communication skills and techniques. Implements both standard and alternative rating plans and plan concepts. Communicates strategic direction and operational plans to internal associates and external partners. Influences and manages broker relationships and results through team. Recommends corrective action if necessary. Conducts regular visits with brokers to understand business needs, reinforce objectives and to drive business results and identify new business opportunities. Responsible for team achieving positive customer experience results. Consults with all levels of internal and external partners regarding policy and practice. Develops effective internal and external collaborative partnerships across all customers and related functions, including: Risk Management, Sales, Claims, Marketing, IT, etc. to understand business developments and build a support network to help resolve business needs. Determines and ensures delivery of training and development based on individual and department needs. Coaches, develops and provides feedback to managers and associates. Directs education of internal and external partners and key organizational groups regarding underwriting practice, goals and strategies. May perform other responsibilities as assigned. Reporting Relationships: Reports to AVP. Typical Skills and Experiences: Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience. MBA in business or a related field is preferred. License/Certification/Designation: Completion of INS and/or AU or similar designations. Completion of CIC or CPCU is preferred. Experience: Typically ten years of commercial lines underwriting experience, large market experience preferred. Significant business management and people leadership experience desired. Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Requires knowledge of property/casualty insurance operations and products, procedures and practices; commercial lines of insurance including credit-collections, rating, loss control and related functions; and commercial lines customer environment and markets. Requires extensive knowledge of commercial property/casualty case underwriting best practices, field underwriting operations and day-to-day underwriting operational needs. Advanced insurance, reinsurance and alternative risk underwriting and management experience, inclusive of experience group, agency and single parent captive insurance companies. Account management and opportunity development practices; proposal development and evaluation practices; and relationship building strategies. Requires proven knowledge of property/casualty products, insurance company operations, captive insurance company operations, treaty reinsurance, staff and field functions, industry trends and project management. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing for interactions with associates, senior management/leadership, agents, customers and other Nationwide leadership. Strong mathematical background with knowledge of actuarial concepts and loss-rating models. Ability to price complex insurance programs, for single insureds and also for multiple insured group captive programs. Microsoft excel, word, power point, etc. Strong analytical, technical and verbal/written communication abilities. Ability to manage complex technical insurance, reinsurance and captive insurance company issues. Ability to evaluate business opportunities, broker networks, special markets, and account development potential; analyze account management practices, communications methods, and sales strategies to determine what changes are needed; exercise initiative in translating leads to business opportunities and accounts; independently organize and manage work tasks to achieve effective use of time; make persuasive presentations and communicate effectively with strategic partners, special market representatives, brokers, TPAs, clients, group accounts, staff, executive management.Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager's leader and HR Business Partner.
