The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing, filing, and prosecuting patent applications related to life sciences, with a focus on molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemistry. They will also be engaged in patentability analysis, IP due diligence, and practice development activities to maintain client relationships.Duties:Prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications before the US Patent and Trademark Office.Conduct prior art searches and analyses to support patent applications.Perform patentability analysis to assess the novelty and inventiveness of inventions.Participate in intellectual property due diligence processes.Engage in practice development activities to build and sustain client relationships.Draft substantive client correspondence related to patent matters.Instruct local counsel for foreign filings and Office Actions.Assist in patent clearance studies and other patent-related opinion projects.Apply advanced concepts in life sciences, with expertise in fields like molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemistry.Study and analyze scientific and technical documents, including previously published patent documents.Convert prior provisional applications into utility applications.Convert foreign-filed patent applications into U.S. applications and vice versa.Requirements:Hold an advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in a biological field, such as Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Microbiology, or Biomedical Engineering, with excellent academic credentials.Possess a minimum of 1 year of experience as a practicing patent agent specializing in life sciences.Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.Education:Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in a biological field.Certifications:Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.Skills:Strong expertise in life sciences, particularly in molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemistry.Proficient in patent application preparation, filing, and prosecution.Ability to conduct thorough prior art searches and analysis.Excellent communication skills for drafting client correspondence.Capability to convert and manage patent applications in different jurisdictions.Understanding of patentability analysis and IP due diligence.Practice development and client relationship-building skills.Job Location: Costa Mesa, CABenefits offered: The firm offers a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave.
