Darlington County School District invites applications for the following position: Director of Adult Education Location: Adult Education Center Available: 2024-2025 School Year Job Goals: To provide a program that is effective in meeting the educational needs of adults who lack basic skills and provide community education opportunities throughout the district. Qualifications: Certified in one of the acceptable areas of certification for any Adult Education Supervisor or holds an advanced degree in the field of adult education and a South Carolina teaching certificate. Essential Functions: Determines the needs of Adult Education Programs, including the need for continuing, expanding, discontinuing, or changing existing programs or for initiating new programs. Designs, adapts, or arranges courses or activities to meet the assessed needs of the various communities of the district. Provides community interest classes/activities based on request of county citizens. In so doing, coordinators with other service agencies/organizations. Works with the district superintendent, other staff members, and principals in arranging program locations, schedules, and proper use of the facility. Secures and trains competent teachers for each course or activity offered, and competent supervisors for adult education centers, with all such personnel meeting certification requirements. Supervises the administration of Adult Education, Family Literacy and Parenting Programs. Supervises publicity related to the programs, including the preparation and distribution of informational materials and other types of advertisements or announcements through various media. Prepares a proposed budget and operates within the approved budget. Provides in-service training and professional growth for adult education personnel. Supervises operational actions and activities including keeping complete and accurate student records; complete and accurate records of staff working schedules and attendance records; supplies and materials for adult education classes; monthly payroll; reports required by the State Department of Education, superintendent's office, or other official authorities. Supervises the administration of tests to adult education students as required by law. Provides guidance and counsel to adult education students interested in continuing their education. Assures the directors own professional development, for keeping abreast of development in adult education, changing aspects of adult education from the state level, and keeping local administrators apprised of such changes and other local, state, or national developments of significance to the Darlington County Adult Education Program. Coordinates/collaborates with other public service agencies to meet the needs of adult education students. Performs other duties as assigned.
