Common Ground Christian Church - Midtown Job Description Director of Youth Ministry Status: 25 hours, part-time salary Summary Common Ground Midtown has continued to evolve as a church, most notably with a growing multicultural and multiracial youth ministry. As the congregation continues to mature, there is a growing need to faithfully walk with youth through the complexities and opportunities of adolescence, along with resourcing their parents/guardians. The role of the director of youth ministry is to welcome, care, support, and provide discipleship for this diverse community. Qualifications/Relevant Experience At least a four-year degree from an accredited college or university (some Bible college or seminary desired) At least 2-3 years ministry experience Experience leading and equipping volunteer teams Background with designing and executing retreats Agreement with CG Midtown’s vision, mission, values, and beliefs Positive spirit toward the Church and the Church’s role in the Kingdom of God Required Character, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities A gracious, Christ-like demeanor in demanding situations Practices a personal “rule of life” or similar personal formation structure Well-rooted and grounded in the Old and New Testament scriptures Possess a “big picture” view of spiritual formation and mission – casting vision and growing in knowledge through reading and experience Teachable, with a desire to grow in faith and ability Team player, with extremely strong interpersonal skills Self motivated; takes initiative and demonstrates perseverance Ability to communicate and lead effectively Strong verbal and written communication skills Can develop and oversee ministry budget Responsibilities Understands and is committed to “contemplative” and “family-based” youth ministry vision and philosophy Able to recruit, train, and support a team of youth leaders to carry out the vision and philosophy of our youth ministry Meet with youth leaders on a regular basis to understand issues, concerns, and upcoming needs and plans Provide training and resources that deepen youth leader’s spiritual life, discipleship skill level, proficiency in youth culture, and life with God Model personal life with God and discipleship through spending time in various settings with youth leaders Shape the spiritual formation approach for youth-aged kids (6th-12th grade), taking into consideration the following: Life stage and faith development of youth Curriculum reflecting Common Ground Midtown’s understanding of the gospel Different forms of worship Creative mission expressions Following the church calendar Oversee the youth ministry gatherings (weekly and large events) Create schedules (plans and logistics) for youth ministry programming Collaborate with youth leaders and other YM volunteers in planning special events Provide ongoing communication with parents, staff, and congregation Envision different ways to utilize parents, staff, and wider congregation to minister to youth during and outside gatherings Encourage parents and congregation to attend youth ministry gatherings AND extracurricular events (sports, choir, drama, etc.) Pursue parent connection in order to support discipling their son or daughter Gather with parents to pray for the youth, get to know and encourage one another, and discuss the youth ministry vision and uniqueness of parenting adolescent kids Work with formation pastor to form practical classes for parents and youth during Training & Equipping sessions
