Director of Finance & Operations Department: Administration Position Commences: Immediately Summary Description The Director of Finance & Operations is an integral part of the School’s senior leadership team and is responsible for managing the financial and physical resources of the School. He/She reports directly to the Head of School. The Director of Finance & Operations major responsibilities are keeping clear and accurate records on all financial operations connected to the School, monitoring the School budget, and supervising the business related, day-to-day operations. Duties and Responsibilities Develop and oversee financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard assets, protect confidential information, and ensure accurate financial reporting. Preparation of the School budget and long-range financial plan with the Head of School. Preparation of monthly financial reports and presentations to the Finance Committee Oversee School business functions, including: tuition billing and collection, accounts payable, contracting, payroll, benefits, human resources, accounting and reporting, regulatory reporting and compliance and other business administration activities. Supervises and reviews audit preparations and works closely with auditors to explain operations of the school. Oversee the physical operations and maintenance of the buildings, grounds, equipment, vehicles in the transportation department. Administer the annual budget and multi-year forecasting process to align with the School’s goals and mission, and maintain account records related to the School’s budget. Provide financial reports to School leadership and the Board. Works closely with all departments and division heads in regards to preparing and implementing budgets and program enhancements. Presents School needs to the Building and Grounds committee Negotiates and executes food service contracts Participate in the development of School strategy, providing recommendations, financial analysis, projections, and other data to inform the process. Collaborate with and assist the Head of School and the Board of Trustees in meeting fiduciary responsibilities, including periodic insurance audits. Ensure that human resources policies and practices are clearly articulated, consistently applied, and conform to legal requirements. Establish policies and protocols that meet all required environmental, health and maintenance standards as required by law and work with the administration to ensure compliance with all regional, state, and federal regulations and laws as they impact the school. Reviews and approves all insurance coverage for the school, including General Liability, Property, Student Accident, Vehicle and Tuition insurance. Day to day review of risk aversion. Manage, mentor and develop direct reports, providing constructive and timely feedback. Understand the culture and climate of the School and the wider educational environment. Communicate regularly and clearly with other senior administrators, particularly Development and Admission. Close monitoring of fund-raising records Coordination and allocation of student financal assistance Communicate clearly and enthusiastically to all staff and stakeholders. Model and foster high ethical standards, integrity, and respect for colleagues, alumni/ae, parents, and students in the conduct of the School’s business. Remain current with business management trends and cultivate professional standards and development by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in local, regional, and national professional organizations. School History The Pine School was founded in 1969. The school was first called The Pine School under the leadership of Mr. Harold Potsdam, its founder. In 1975 the school changed its name to St. Michael’s School and a Board of Trustees were appointed. It was at this time that St. Michael’s became a non-profit day school with an Episcopal affiliation. In 1994, the Board of Trustees renamed the school St. Michael’s Independent School, ending the Episcopal affiliation, while retaining all of the same internal procedures and traditions. In July 2006, the school officially returned to its original name, The Pine School. General Information The Pine School is a college preparatory day school that serves students from Kindergarten through grade 12. The Pine School provides a strong traditional core curriculum while striving to instill high achievement and a lifelong love for learning. The school’s objective is to develop each student’s intellectual, physical, and creative talents in a supportive and moral environment. Students are encouraged to promote service above self and are inspired to develop a sense of commitment and involvement within their community.In K-4, small class sizes and a challenging curriculum enable students to learn important academic skills in a nurturing and caring environment. The children become knowledgeable in computer technology and the multifaceted fine arts and physical education programs are an integral part of the curriculum.
