EMERGENCY JOB POSTING SESSIONAL Lecturer (1.0 FCE) CHL 3004Y: Ethics and Health Institutions, Fall/Winter 2023-24 – CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Course CHL3004Y: Ethics and Health Institutions This is a required course in the Master of Health Sciences (MHSc) in Bioethics program. The MHSc in Bioethics is a two-year professional degree program for health professionals working in health settings. This full-year course explores ethics in healthcare from an organizational and health systems perspective. Students will: a) develop an understanding of ethics practice at an organizational level, b) become familiar with the field of organizational ethics, c) explore approaches to analyze and address ethical issues arising at an organizational level in healthcare institutions (e. g. stakeholder analysis, organizational ethics frameworks, etc. ), d) establish a basic foundation for analyzing organizational and health systems ethics issues and, e) understand the ethical continuum between clinical, organizational, public health and health systems ethics. Course readings are drawn from an interdisciplinary literature, including management, social sciences, law, business ethics, and bioethics. Guest speakers will contribute their experience from a range of practice-based perspectives. The first half of the course focuses on organizational ethics and policy-related responses; the second half focuses on health system ethics, including areas such as public health ethics.
