The successful candidate for this position will embody confidence, exercise good judgment and must be able to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with various constituencies, including students and their families, colleagues, staff, and administrators POSITION SUMMARY OWN 3 Elementary School will be entering its third year of operation for the 2024-2025 school year. The school is comprised of a vibrant, talented, and growing team of educators who will be serving students in Kindergarten through Grade 3. The school will eventually grow to being a Kindergarten to Grade 5 school. The School or Guidance Counselor provides students with a first-class learning experience that maximizes their intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development, including the development of their ability to apply their intellect to solving problems and contribute to their communities as enlightened and responsible citizens. To assist students to be the very best they can be both academically and socially, while working with teachers to understand how best to work with each student and family. Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration the school counselor will promote student success, provide preventive services, and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic, career, and personal/social development for all students POSITION DESCRIPTION, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS Work collaboratively with school's leadership team to develop, enhance, and implement policies and procedures aimed at student's mental health and well-being Be responsible for counseling of mandated IEP students Work in partnership with teachers and administrators to create, modify, and improve programs aimed at students and families mental, social, and physical health and well-being Support and fully participate in a school culture that focuses on student and adult learning. Set high expectations and standards for the achievement of students and own personal performance. Offer programs that ensure student achievement of school’s academic standards. Support the school’s philosophy that values continuous learning for adults tied to student learning and other school goals. Use multiple sources of data collection to analyze barriers to student achievement and to access, identify and apply to instructional improvement. Motivate students to achieve at their highest level of ability and potential through targeted programs. Work cooperatively with parents and generate parents’ confidence in the teacher. Demonstrate genuine concern for students in a climate characterized by high personal and student expectations. Promote good citizenship through actions as a role model. Participate in the development of policies and regulations that affect instruction and conditions for success. Use technology effectively for communications, record keeping and other administrative tasks. Share responsibility for professional, cooperative staff relations and for out-of-class activities important to the operation of school. Conduct one’s self according to professional and ethical principles. Continually strive to improve classroom methods, teaching techniques, and interpersonal relationships. Adhere to all school policies for both students and personnel. Share responsibility for marketing OWN Charter Schools in the community. Display personal qualities that reflect favorably upon the individual, the group, and the school. Display pride in being a member of the OWN team by displaying positive behavior and fully participating in the school culture. Identify and participate positively in professional development opportunities. Conduct and document parent conferences around the high school admissions process. Adhere to all procedures and policies as outlined in the Employee Manual. Perform various assigned responsibilities, as allowed by state and federal laws, of other employees in their absence to the extent other responsibilities permit. REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS Be highly qualified in accordance with the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 Master’s degree preferred from an accredited university or college NYS certification as Guidance or School Counselor Excellent oral/written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills to present information before large and small groups Preferred: Bilingual Spanish COMPENSATION & BENEFITS PROGRAM Salary Range is from $69,831 to $140,316 depending on years of experience, degrees, and certifications.Generous benefits program which includes but is not limited to: Health/Dental/Life Insurance 401(k) with employer match contribution Commuter benefits Gym benefits Employee discounts Paid time off Student loan forgiveness DISCLAIMER This description is intended to indicate the kinds of tasks and levels of work difficulty that will be required for this position.
