Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) is committed to improving health in Western North Carolina through innovative health professions training and education and compassionate healthcare.We are seeking to fill a full-time, benefitted Certified Medical Coder. This role is responsible for reviewing and ensuring accurate coding for Family Medicine, and OB/Gyn clinics at MAHEC. This coder will work in Asheville, NC. Remote work considered for experienced coders only and employee must reside in appropriate driving distance to office. RESPONSIBILITIES: Review and verify patient demographic/insurance information, procedure, diagnosis, and Faculty/Resident levels for Family Medicine Clinic Submit CPT corrections/changes to Coding Supervisor for approval, as necessary Update Allscripts with accurate demographic/insurance information Post all clinic charges to patient accounts accurately and in a timely manner Balance and complete daily Charge/batch and Receipt Summaries with backup for all charges posted Monitor patient claims for accurate processing of claims. Correct when possible, or report to the Coding Supervisor EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: * High School Diploma or GED required* One (1) year of relevant coding and/or billing experience preferred CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: * National certification from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or certification through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC). COMPUTER SKILLS: * Allscripts and Cerner software experience preferred COMPETENCIES: INITIATIVE - You don't wait to be told what to do. These skills are required to successfully adapt to changing demands. This involves viewing your experiences as potential learning opportunities and re-examining assumptions, values, methods, policies, and practices.
