JOB SUMMARY The Department of Public Works (DPW) Golf Carts Technician performs daily maintenance of the rented golf cart fleet under the direction of the DPW Golf Cart Lead Technician. They will provide hospitable, service-oriented support to all Golf Cart users. This role is primarily based in the Golf Cart Shop on site. They will also assist remotely within the event site when called for mobile repairs, breakdowns, or maintenance during the event and will assist with Golf Cart clean-up post-event. This temporary, ineligible for benefits role is: From August - September : Full-Time , Non-Exempt , based in Black Rock City, Nevada . The deadline to apply for this role is 5:00 pm Pacific on May 1, 2024 DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Daily Operations (80%): Report any misuse or damage of the golf carts to the Golf Cart Manager. Safely equip all golf carts with adequate lighting and other required equipment. Assist in the daily inspection and maintenance of golf carts to ensure they are in safe and operational condition. Help troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical issues with golf carts. Support the Golf Cart Lead Technicians in conducting preventative maintenance tasks. Assist the service crews in times of need (Lunch breaks, service overflow, etc.) Provide friendly and professional assistance to Burning Man Staff utilizing golf carts, offering guidance on safe operation, answering questions, and addressing concerns to enhance their overall experience. Provide “after-hours” urgent repair services while on shift as part of the on-call tech team. Remove all added equipment from carts and prepare for return to the vendor. Assist with Golf Cart returns. Personnel Support (15%) Reasonably and creatively assist staff with problem-solving efforts and alternate solutions. Effectively manages own time and supports the efforts of the team as a whole to create an environment of accountability, collaboration, and flexibility of focus in the crew. Be prepared to operate safely and sober at all times during working hours. Adhere to safety protocols and regulations at all times to prevent accidents and injuries in the workplace. Promote environmentally friendly practices in the maintenance and operation of golf carts, including proper disposal of waste materials and adherence to Burning Man's Leave No Trace principles. Prepare written feedback for the Golf Carts Manager describing the season's successes, areas for improvement, and suggestions for next year; submit an end-of-season EMBER Report. Other Functions and Responsibilities (5%) Attend and support department Morning Meetings. Work with the Business Operations Teams to execute LNT and Waste stream plans. Be familiar with, understand, and act in accordance with Burning Man’s staff policies, protocols, and behavioral standards. Perform other duties as assigned. LEARNING AND TEACHING Documentation - Assists in maintaining process documentation related to their assigned duties. Learning – Pursues ongoing learning in their area of expertise, working to stay current on emergent knowledge, skills, and processes. QUALIFICATIONS Required Flexibility to work irregular hours and weekends for the duration of the event production cycle, including the Burning Man event. Able to safely lift up to 60 lbs. of golf carts, related supplies, crates and equipment and repeatedly climb up on trucks. Knowledge of small engine repair or maintenance. Excellent communication and teamwork skills; A positive attitude and willingness to adapt to the unique culture and atmosphere of Burning Man. Clear, service-oriented and professional communication, verbally and through written correspondence with a customer-oriented approach. Operates with behavioral integrity and discretion of sensitive or important information; maintains organization and tidiness in work ethics and the work environment. Able to receive and integrate feedback into action, remain calm and focused under pressure and emergency situations, and maintain a respectful demeanor that leads by example. Capacity to identify tasks and initiate execution with minimal direction. Capable of working in an extreme environment including drastic temperature changes, high winds, poor air quality and low to no visibility at times. Ability to temporarily relocate for work at the Burning Man event held in Gerlach, Nevada. Preferred Proven experience as a golf cart technician or similar role. Experienced with using 2 way radios and following radio protocol. Familiarity with golf cart brands/models commonly used at events like Burning Man is preferred. It is helpful if the candidate has previously been to Burning Man and/or is familiar with its culture. REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS Valid driver’s license and a good driving record COMPENSATION Individual compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors, including prior experience and geographical location. The anticipated rate for this position: From August - September is $15.00 - $17.00 per hour . PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT Off-playa: Work is primarily standing and bending while cleaning and restoring Golf Carts to original status. This happens in Reno and away from the extremes of the playa. On-playa: This position requires periods of heavy lifting, bending, kneeling, squatting, and climbing. This position will be physically demanding, and requires individuals with good physical health, and endurance. Work will include the need to find and meet with department representatives who may not be in the vicinity therefore this could include walking or using some form of transportation. Much of the work will be in outside weather conditions and will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles as well as possible extremes in temperature.
