Project Coordinator - Editorial (Volunteer) * Note: The following is an opportunity for flexible, part-time, volunteer work. Please DO NOT APPLY if you are only looking for paid employment. All positions are remote / work-from-home. Must be fluent in English. About Us: WhoWhatWhy is seeking a passionate, high-energy individual who is excited to help us organize and implement our many exciting ideas and initiatives, while sharing insights on how to get us to the next level. As a startup, we are looking for people who would bring structure and scale to the complex growth challenges of a nonprofit organization by rolling up their sleeves to get stuff done! In addition to doing groundbreaking work, this role will be pivotal in establishing a culture of openness, positive communication, and continuous learning. Our organization is a nonprofit that is not funded by a zillionaire. We do not accept corporate ads. As such, we are only currently able to pay a small core team, as well as experienced professional freelancers, relying primarily on skilled volunteers to fill out our growing organizational infrastructure. Age does not matter. We have among us young students, vibrant retirees, and everything in between, from all walks of life. Join us! Note: Must be able to attend bi-weekly meetings, Mondays at 3:00 PM EST Responsibilities: Manage projects from conception to completion. Collaborate with Editorial Managers to fully understand assigned projects and provide regular status updates. Attend department meetings; lead as needed. Facilitate or lead project meetings as needed and drive toward continual progress. Lead and manage department projects and other activities within a function. Update the project plan and publish / share regularly, including minutes. Actively track and report on the status of all projects. Serve as an escalation point for team members when things do not go as planned, and provide direction to resolve issues and clear blockages. Develop and implement project management templates, processes, and best practices using project management methodologies. Assist in the recruitment and selection of prospective team members. Work closely with cross-functional teams to identify more efficient workflows. Seek out opportunities for continuous process improvement across WhoWhatWhy. Minimum Qualifications: 2+ years experience in project coordination, ideally with knowledge of journalism or editorial structures and processes. Be highly organized and able to juggle multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to take the lead, identify project tasks, set priorities, assign and monitor work. Successful experience working with various stakeholders at different levels and getting things done with quality in a timely manner. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Committed to stay for a minimum of 1 year . Experience with managing multiple projects simultaneously and to work autonomously. Bachelor's degree or Project Management certification. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in the media industry / startup / nonprofits is preferred, but not required. Why WhoWhatWhy? Contribute to a mission-driven organization in a dynamic field. Expectations: As a member of our team, you will collaborate closely with leaders and managers within your department. We ask all team members to commit to a minimum of 10 hours per week and to maintain high responsiveness through Slack, email, and conference calls. Additionally, we request a minimum commitment of 12 months from our volunteers to ensure continuity and meaningful contributions to our mission. Attendance at our weekly department meetings on Mondays at 3:00 PM Eastern Standard Time is mandatory.
