A day in the life: Compile and interpret geological data, formulate models, identify hazards that affect safety and provide recommendations to mitigate issues.Perform surveys and prepare plans on proposed investigation sites and identify appropriate personnel and schedule to support the project.Direct drill crews in installation of geotechnical instruments.Review data from research and subsurface investigations with computer methods to model geological conditions and predict subsurface behavior to identify the likelihood of landslides or settlements.Prepare or approve final reports with geologic conditions and hazards and design recommendations for use by engineers.Assess material needs, track existing sources and assure they have permits.Evaluate and plan development of state owned or controlled sources of construction aggregates.Coordinate with the region and right of way agents for acquiring additional and reducing surplus property.Conduct, coordinate and review hazmat site assessments.Prepare and implement health and safety plans as required by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for site investigation and clean up.Provide support and technical advice to maintenance operations. Work is performed in the field around hazardous construction sites, heavy construction equipment and at sites where blasting with high explosives is occurring with frequent travel with overnight stays required. Minimum qualifications: A Registered Geologist (RG) license OR a Certified Engineering Geologist (CEG) license from the Oregon State Board of Geologist Examiners depending on the position. Note: If registered in another state the successful applicant will be required to obtain professional registration in Oregon within one year of hire. It is the applicant's responsibility to contact the Oregon State Board of Geologist Examiners for information to become licensed in Oregon. Special qualifications: Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.You must have a 40-hour OSHA HazWoper Certification or complete within one year to be considered for this position.
