About the Role: We have an exciting opportunity for a Staff Scientist in the Host-Microbiota Interactions Lab (HMIL) which explores the relationship between humans and their microbiome- the community of microorganisms that live on and in us. The team focuses on gut bacteria and viruses and their influence in long-term growth, development and disease resistance of children from Westernised and Low- and Middle-Income countries. This key Staff Scientist provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to existing and develop new research projects working with collaborators on an international scale. About You: We seek someone with a strong background in microbiology and genomics to contribute to the delivery of the Lawley lab research strategy and to manage a small team of microbiologists to generate high quality genomic and phenotypic data on commensals and pathogens from the human microbiota. In addition, to contribute to biological interpretation of data and the design and execution of the necessary experiments to prove biological hypotheses and uncover novel beneficial functions from human microbes that will be written up for publication, external funding and conference lectures. The Team: This is an exciting opportunity for you to join a dynamic team investigating the role of the microbiota in childhood development and disease resistance using clinical samples, genomics, anaerobic microbiology and host-interaction models. There is an entrepreneurial spirit to the lab and a strong translational focus with the goal of developing novel, microbiome-based diagnostics and therapeutics. You will be part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary, collaborative team that incorporates microbiology and bioinformatics approaches and will be expected to work closely with existing team members and collaborators to accomplish scientific objectives and proactively identify, establish and develop new collaborations and drive publications.
