Position Title: Transition to Adult Living Coach FLSA Classification : Non - Exempt Full or part -time status : Full-time Department: Migration and Refugee Services Reports to : Transition to Adult Living Supervisor Hiring Range: $17.00-$22.00/ hr DOE Date written or last revised: April 19 , 2022 Primary Function of Position To assist in providing a full range of life skills preparation services to unaccompanied refugee minors (URM) in foster care or supervised independent living. Provision of services as outlined in the state and federal regulations and in compliance with policies and procedures of Catholic Community Services Refugee Foster Care Program. All services are provided in a manner that will facilitate self-sufficiency within the service period . Major Position Responsibilities Prepare Unaccompanied Refugee Minors for independence in the United States through life skills courses, educational planning and support, and career building. Assess the skill level and needs for the youth on your caseload and m eet with them every other month to build on those skills. Document each visit. Teach the Life Skills curriculum to youth with an engaging, hands-on approach. Make suggestions for quality improvement of the curriculum based off trends. The curriculum includes: Education: study habits, financial aid Career planning Housing: lease agreements, rent, utilities, grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, etc. Financial: Money management, budgeting, taxes, credit scores, etc. Physical and mental health awareness and maintenance Public transportation, driver's licenses, and insurance requirements Communication and social relationships Laws, immigration, safety, and emergency response Advocate with schools on ESL needs and services and help youth understand how literacy affects long-term employment and self-sufficiency. Connect youth to resources that build literacy. Attending all IEP and 504 meetings to advise what services should be sought. Help youth through the transition to post-secondary education including the options of universities, community colleges, ESL programs, vocational trainings, etc. Teach youth how to apply for FAFSA and other available scholarships. Teach youth how to access Educational and Training Vouchers and track all eligibility documents, applications, and awards. Conduct outreach to local businesses to develop job leads for youth, teach youth how to build their resumes, practice interviewing skills, etc. Help youth overcome barriers to employment including connecting to Vocational Rehab and other community resources. Track youth's grades, employment, salary, progress, etc. Participate in weekly staff meetings , monthly Transition to Adult Living team meetings , quarterly group life skills activities, and ongoing transition plan meetings. Work Environment Work will be performed primarily inside but will occur in youths' homes, places of employment, educational institutes, and other locations as needed in addition to being performed in an office. Physical Demands Work requires the ability to sit and stand for long periods , to walk moderate distances, to drive, and occasionally to assist youth with physical activities such as carrying groceries or household supplies. Driving is required for this position. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Strong coaching skills. Works independently in a safe and appropriate manner. Demonstrates both problem-solving and problem-prevention. Displays sensitivity to the needs of clients, client's families, visitors, co-workers, volunteers, and other pe ople with whom the employee may interact. Recognizes time as a valuable resource and responds promptly to the needs of clients and co-workers . Consistently performs work assignments in a time-efficient manner and adh eres to deadlines. Proficiency in English oral and written communication. Bilingual preferred. Must maintain confidentiality regarding client 's information. Proficiency in computer skills to maintain case files, complete documentation, scheduling, and e-mail in Microsoft Office 365. Ability to perform functions as itemized in nature and scope of the position. Familiar with and supportive of the mission of Catholic Community Services of Utah and the vision of the Catholic Church articulated by the diocesan bishop. Education, Training and Experience Associate's degree in social work, education, or a related field from an accredited institution . Experience with teenage and young adult English Language Learners. Experience with multi-cultural and refugee communities. Experience advocating for youth in school settings. Background S creen ing Re quirement Must be able to pass a national BCI/FBI background check. Licenses, certifications and credentials Current Utah driver's license, proof of auto insurance with minimum policy liability limits of $50,000 per person and $100,000 per incident , 21 years of age or older, a clean driving record, and ability to meet CCS vehicle safety requirements. Position status and expected schedule This position is full-time ( 40 hours per week) and non- exempt. The general schedule will consist of 40 hours to be worked between Monday and Friday between the hours of 8:30 AM and 9 :00 PM. Rotating weekend on-call schedule 3-4 times a year.
