Watch our job video to learn more about this opportunity !https://video.digi-me.com/MODESTO-SCHOOL/jobs/information-services-technology-it/data-analyst-information-systems/jv_MODESTO-SCHOOL_3Data Analyst - Information Systems Overall Responsibility Under general supervision, evaluate state reporting and district reporting requirements; make recommendations as to the best methods to capture and report required data; proactively monitor data in our student and business systems to ensure accurate and timely entry of required data; use SQL queries and other tools to validate data and provide requested reports; handle the CALPADS Administrator role; and serve as a liaison between Information Systems and other district departments and school sites. Specific Responsibilities 1. Evaluate state reporting requirements as well as code set changes, file specifications, and new data elements. Make recommendations and develop plans for the best methods to meet requirements. 2. Evaluate district reporting requirements that include the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP), datadashboards, and department and site needs. Explain data requirements to internal and external department staff including programmers, administrators, data entry clerks, registrars and business system department staff. 4. Proactively monitor data in our student and business systems to ensure accurate and timely entry of required data. Review daily data validation reports. Follow up with appropriate staff. 5. Write SQL queries and use other tools to validate data as well as provide requested data from district databases. 6. Create and maintain documentation specific to Modesto City Schools that details how and where data is captured, where data is stored, and includes the relationships between data elements. 7. Develop and distribute timelines for state reporting activities; monitor and track completion of milestones. 8. Serve as the district’s CALPADS Administrator. Duties include setting up new accounts, modifying security settings and resetting passwords. 9. Provide assistance with state reporting including, but not limited to, requesting Statewide Student Identifiers (SSIDs). 10. Respond to requests for district data submitted through CALPADS, CBEDS/ORA, CRDC and other state or federal reporting systems. Help others obtain data from the California Department of Education’s DataQuest reporting system. 11. Organize and prepare application software documentation, procedural documentation and operational instructions.Use group collaboration platforms to facilitate user interaction, file sharing and support. 12. Attend and participate in meetings, conference calls, and trainings related to state reporting. 13. Work with district leaders to establish data-related policies, procedures, roles and responsibilities (i.e. data governance). 14. Prepare documentation and present relevant information at district meetings including user group meetings, principal meetings, and associate principal meetings. 15. Analyze barriers to timely data entry and suggest changes to help ensure staff is able to meet state reporting deadlines. 16. Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work.17. Perform other related duties as assigned. Salary Classified Management Salary Schedule Qualifications Knowledge/Ability Minimum Requirements:Ability to analyze complex requirements, identify problems, and develop logical conclusions and effective solutions.Ability to extract, evaluate, and analyze data and make sound recommendations.Ability to clearly document procedures and provide training for staff and end-users.Ability to prioritize and complete tasks within required timeframes.Knowledge of state reporting data collection systems used by local education agencies.Ability to function well in a team environment.Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical users.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with end-users and Information Technology staff.Knowledge of and ability to apply problem-solving processes and techniques.Knowledge of and ability to use current word processing, database, spreadsheet, and presentation programs to develop and produce correspondence, reports, publications, presentations and to complete projects.Ability to understand and implement complex oral and written directions given in English.Ability to independently compose clear, complete and concise correspondence and reports using correct grammar, syntax, punctuation and spelling.Ability to work with a minimum of supervision. Experience Minimum Requirements: At least one (1) year successful experience writing complex SQL queries using any of the following databases:SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL.Competency in the use of current versions of Microsoft Office applications. Desirable Qualifications: One (1) or more years of experience working at a local education agency.Experience using the CALPADS state reporting data system to submit, analyze, and verify local educationagency data. Education/Credential Minimum Requirement: Bachelor’s Degree from an Accredited College or University with significant coursework in ComputerScience, Business Administration or related field. License Minimum Requirement: Valid California Driver’s License Physical Characteristics With or without the use of aids:Sufficient vision to read small print.Sufficient depth perception to work on computers and related equipment.Sufficient hearing to hear work area noise and normal conversation in person and on the telephone.Ability to speak in a voice that can be clearly heard and understood on the telephone and inface-to-face conversations.Sufficient dexterity to manipulate small objects, print or write legibly, and use a computer.Sufficient physical ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.Sufficient physical ability to reach horizontally and vertically with arms.
