Position Purpose This position plans, designs, develops, and coordinates the production of graphic design, including outreach and marketing products, publications, student recruitment materials, direct mail, digital and print advertisements, and media presentations. The position takes a leading role in the creation, development, and delivery of graphic design products that advance Evergreen’s goals of student recruitment and retention. Nature and Scope Under the general direction of the Creative and Web Manager, the incumbent works with clients across campus to prioritize and complete graphic design projects, including developing and managing project budgets; implementing and ensuring compliance with branding and design standards; accepting or declining requested projects; consulting and providing advice on graphic design needs; and coordinating, specifying, and requesting printing services from vendors. The position requires senior-level knowledge and skill in graphic design, and exercises decision-making and management responsibility for campus publications, keeping many simultaneous projects on schedule. Work performed by this position supports the most urgent and important college goals, such as student recruitment. As a key member of the creative team, this position is an ambassador of the Evergreen brand and works to curate and shape the visual identity of the college. Essential Functions • Manage assigned projects and consult with clients and stakeholders to determine the scope of projects, develop and manage budget, consider audience, and develop project goals, objectives, and timelines.• Conceptualize, design, and produce brochures, flyers, information booklets, recruitment and marketing content, publications, signage, banners, and other graphic projects.• Serve as a primary graphic designer on multi-disciplinary teams for a wide range of projects involving marketing, branding, informational campaigns, and related projects.• Generate new and innovative ideas and content that align with the Evergreen brand, mission, and vision.• Create effective and efficient production-ready files for both digital and offset printing.• Work collaboratively with colleagues to strategize and coordinate efforts on creative projects and marketing goals.• Accept or decline requested projects and communicate alternative options to clients as appropriate.• Make corrections and/or revisions to current design projects and communicate changes to clients.• Provide status updates and maintain communication with project teams in all stages of the design process.• Develop and design complex layouts using computer software or by hand.• Illustrate an unlimited range of subject matter in a wide variety of media, including computer graphics and traditional methods.• Contribute to and participate in programs and events involving aggressive marketing, high visibility, and large distribution.• Advise clients on the practical applications of graphic design as a tool of visual communication.• Develop, train, and explain to campus colleagues the effective use of graphic design and production costs; offers ideas, suggestions and information on techniques, content, and format to best meet needs.• Produce and package complex, computer-generated multi-page publications using specialized graphic design software for page layout, illustration, and photo manipulation.• Purchase and direct creative services from outside designers, artists, photographers, and other vendors as needed.• Maintain supply inventory, prepare order lists, and assist in developing pricing schedules.• Perform other duties as required. Additional Duties Knowledge Skills and Abilities • Advanced skill in graphic design concept development, design, and production.• Knowledge of methods and techniques of graphic design and digital and offset printing; effective application of materials and media; and skill with computer graphic equipment and peripherals (printers, scanners, digital cameras, etc.) and graphic design software (for publications, illustrations, photo manipulation, etc.).• Project management skills, including the ability to demonstrate excellent leadership, time management, task management, communication, teamwork, and conflict management.• Ability to create a welcoming, inclusive, and equitable work environment and skill in communicating across significant differences.• Ability to work effectively with leadership in determining and meeting graphic design needs and demonstrate excellent communication skills with stakeholders to conceptualize and complete projects.• Skill in establishing and managing project budgets, ability to oversee competitive bidding processes, good negotiation skills, and ability to manage external vendors.• Ability to effectively work under tight deadlines and handle multiple projects and details simultaneously.• Skill in collaborating with colleagues to advance creative projects, coordinate efforts, and achieve established goals.• Knowledge of managing and implementing a brand and content strategy.• Knowledge of print production processes.• Ability to engage collaboratively and collegially with campus partners, supervisors, and other creative staff. Minimum Qualifications Desired Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in design, art, communications, or related field.• Five years of progressively responsible experience in a graphic design or related role, preferably in an advertising agency or graphic design firm.• Current, direct experience designing or overseeing digital and print projects.• Proficiency with industry-standard digital design tools in the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Microsoft Office products, on a Macintosh operating system.• Experience working in higher education or with higher education clients. Conditions of Employment • Must provide proof of identity and employment eligibility within three days of beginning work.• This position is part of a bargaining unit and covered by a collective bargaining agreement.• Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted.
