JOB SUMMARY: The Licensed Practical Nurse/Certified Medical Assistant provides patient care, which is appropriate to the patient's age, diagnosis, symptoms, physician orders and following established policies and procedures. They create a patient centered environment for all patients. The Licensed Practical Nurse/Certified Medical Assistant reports directly to the Clinical Director. ORGANIZATIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Support the mission, vision and philosophy of Spectra Health as evidenced by compliance with all organizational policies and procedures.• Supports all functions that attain and maintain compliance with regulatory or funding agencies.• Supports and facilitates positive interaction with others as evidenced by: professional maturity, respect for others, a team-centered approach, maintenance of confidential information and an appreciation of a variety of viewpoints and diversity in the workplace.• Exhibits effective communication skills, including proper use of agency communication systems.• Participates in appropriate professional development programs to attain and maintain role competency.• Supports the strategic plan of Spectra Health as evidenced by a working knowledge of the plan and participation in completing elements of the plan.• Support the business and clinical plans of Spectra Health as evidenced by a working knowledge of the plan and participation in completing elements of the plan. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: • Obtain chief complaint from patients using information from patient/patient's family and previous medical records• Schedule lab work, test, procedures or surgeries according to standards; appointments;• Completes and codes laboratory and radiology requests and obtains waivers from patients as necessary• Complete training and perform CLIA waived labs tests as allowed by certification/license• Identifies significant changes or high-risk situations in patient's condition and takes appropriate actions as evidenced in reporting and documentation• Provides triage for urgent patient calls and discussion with provider• Prepares patients for exams and assists with procedures as provider requests• Maintains an efficient flow of patients• Administers medications• Answers telephone, routes call and takes accurate and complete phone messages for the provider and relays information in a prompt manner following policy• Provides patient/patient's family with appropriate education based on identified needs to optimize patient/patient's family understanding and documents response according to standard operating procedure• Documents in the EHR all authorized medication refills and instructions given.• Completes all charting and documentation• Notifies Clinical Director of any complaints, unsatisfactory outcomes or special requests.• Notify patients of lab reports when requested by provider.• Schedules referral appointments and obtains all necessary information for the patient and tracks for appropriate follow-up• Adjusts own schedule to meet fluctuation in workload;• Prepare instruments for CSR• Communicate supply needs to appropriate staff to ensure timely restock of supplies• Check Meds and supplies for outdates• Other duties as assigned such as phlebotomy, scanning, performing EKGs.• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook. Ability to work on local desktop and in remote desktop sessions. Basic computer hardware knowledge. Ability to gain proficiency in VCHC's organizational software programs including but not limited to the electronic medical or dental records, practice management systems, QuickBooks, and multiple web-site accounts. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Certified Medical Assistant : Required :• Graduate of a one or two-year program leading to a degree in Medical Assisting.• Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant.• Certified by the North Dakota Department of Health as a Certified Nursing Assistant or registered by North Dakota Board of Nursing as a Nursing Assistant or must obtain within the first four (4) months of employment. Preferred: • Experience working as a Medical Assistant with a physician or mid-level provider. Licensed Practical Nurse: Required: Holds current valid North Dakota license as a LPN. Preferred: One to two years clinical nursing experience, preferably in a clinic setting. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The Licensed Practical Nurse/Certified Medical Assistant works in a clinical environment that requires the employee to be on the feet for long periods of time.
