Chemical Dependency Counselor/Counselor Tech Revision Date: 9/27/2021 Dept./Program: DWC Behavioral Health/Chemical Dependency Employment Status: Full Time Division: Health Systems FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Reports To: Chemical Dependency Manager Schedule: 40 hours/ 52 weeks Supervises: Peer Support Mentors Preference: TERO Ordinance 2017-01, P.L. 93-638 Job Summary The Chemical Dependency Counselor/Counselor Tech (CDC/CT) provides direct services to Henu' Community Wellness Court clients identified with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, and is responsible for the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of Substance Use Disorder (SUD) clients, development and ongoing review of treatment plans, transition planning, and individual and group counseling in a supervised setting, making appropriate mental health referrals when necessary. The CDC/CT is expected to establish and maintain a supportive and therapeutic environment. It is also expected that they will participate in supervision with Behavioral Health Providers in pursuit of higher levels of certification. This position is responsible to maintain client files in accordance with applicable policies and regulations. Essential Functions Provides substance use assessments of clients to determine appropriate treatment level Develops or participates in the development of goals, objectives, and interventions for client treatment plans Conducts period reviews of levels of care for clients and determines need for transition/discharge readiness Provides individual and group counseling to assigned clients/family members Facilitate groups regarding substance use, addiction, and recovery Coordinates services with Behavioral Health and Henu' Court teams for a multidisciplinary approach Actively participates in weekly clinical and individual supervision meeting with Chemical Dependency Manager and other Chemical Dependency Counselor(s), including peer consultation and peer record review Coordinates the activities of and supervises Peer Support Mentors in their work with Henu' clients Maintain client records in accordance with Tribal and Medicaid standards Follow all grant requirements, including AKAIMS and reporting grant requirements to supervisor It is the intent of this job description to highlight the essential functions of the position; however, it is not an all-inclusive list. Working Conditions Lifting Requirements Sedentary work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met. Physical Requirements Stand or Sit (Stationary position) Walk (Move, Traverse) Use hands/fingers to handle or feel (Operate, Activate, Use, Prepare, Inspect, Place, Detect, Position) Talk/hear (Communicate, Detect, Converse with, Discern, Convey, Express oneself, Exchange information) See (Detect, Determine, Perceive, Identify, Recognize, Judge, Observe, Inspect, Estimate, Assess) Taste/Smell (Detect, Distinguish, Determine) Repetitive Motion OSHA Categories Category II - Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue, but exposure or potential for exposure may occur Equipment and Tools List Equipment used for job: Computer, copier, fax, scanner, and other office equipment List Tools: Drives KIT or Personal Vehicle: Travel Local In-State Comments: Travel may be required for transporting clients and to/from training Qualifications Education High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) Experience Three (3) years of experience providing chemical dependency services Experience with computerized management information systems Preferred Experience in direct services with a young adult population Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities Experience with AKAIMS License/Certification Certification as Chemical Dependency Counselor I or Counselor Technician in the State of Alaska First Aid/CPR Valid Alaska driver license and must remain insurable under the Tribe's policy Special Skills Proficient in clinical writing; writing sample will be required Knowledge of HIPAA and 42 CFR, Part 2 regulations Excellent interpersonal communications, public speaking, and presentation skills Knowledge of child protection and ICWA laws Must be willing to become familiar with Tribal Court Codes and Dena'ina culture Maintains awareness of community resources available to clients and families. Conducts business in a service-oriented manner that is attentive, pleasant, respectful and kind when dealing with un'ina, visitors, co-workers and others Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, or obtain within 90 days Job Posted by ApplicantPro
