Teaching Assistant Responsibilities LaunchCode Teaching Assistants guide a group of learners through the curriculum, and are their principal education and support point of contact throughout the program. This experience will provide the opportunity to grow your leadership, people management, and group facilitation skills. Teaching Assistants complete 12 hours of paid training in teaching and facilitation fundamentals, project and people management, diversity and inclusion, and community building. Teaching Assistants will then serve as a team lead in LaunchCode's Part-Time Web Development program (typically 10 paid hours per week for 30 Weeks), while working towards personally-defined career development objectives. This role reports to the LaunchCode Candidate Engagement Manager. Qualifications: Knowledge of back-end or full-stack web programming concepts Passion for others' learning of technical skills for entry-level tech careers Strong communication skills - comfortable leading small groups and/or providing one-on-one teaching assistance Perception and patience; knowing when a student needs help and guiding them in how to problem solve to find answers Growth mindset The job is fast-paced and multi-faceted. You're perfect for this role if you are: A proactive leader Detail-oriented Experienced in teaching, mentoring, or tutoring Armed with a solid understanding of: JavaScript Angular Java Spring (for our Java Web Development track) Able to put the knowledge of concepts and technologies taught in our curriculum to practice through your full-time job or project work Bonus points if you're a LaunchCode graduate, CS student or graduate, professional programmer, or programming enthusiast engaged in the local tech scene Position Type Part-Time - Contract This is a contracted, part-time, paid position for LaunchCode's Part-Time Web Development cohort. The class will run for up to 35 Weeks , beginning in June 2023, with an estimated end date on February 2024 (Java Web Development) . The class will meet weekly on Mondays and Thursdays from 5:30 - 8:30 pm CT. Class will be held in person in downtown Kansas City. Please note that all course staff would is expected to be available at class times. Teaching Assistants will be paid $15.00/hr and will work 10 hours weekly. As part-time contractors, Teaching Assistants are not eligible for employee benefits through LaunchCode.
