Emergency Department Nurse Manager

The Emergency Department (ED) Nurse Manager plans and coordinates medical and health services in the ED for nursing services, along with the medical and administrative staff. Participates as a member of the hospital's management team in planning, policy formulation, and administrative decision making with particular reference to the role, functions, and operations of the hospital's ED. This position is responsible for patient care, management, resource management, and fiscal management of the ED.Responsibilities: Scheduling of staff Chart audits Front line management of the ED Defines and maintains the standards of nursing practice within the institution. Assesses the quality of care rendered. Initiates the development of policies and procedures that govern nursing services in the ED. Responsible for verifying employee credentials under his or her position control. Responsible for staff performance, staff recruitment, staff retention, and staff development in conjunction with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). Responsible for collaborating with other departments and agencies regarding resources and services for improved patient care and staff development. Responsible for planning, developing, and implementing a budgeted process for staffing and services rendered in conjunction with the CNO. Evaluates the quality and cost-effectiveness of staffing and services within the goals of the hospital. Participates in appropriate meetings and committees. Encourages and supports research and improvement studies that can make meaningful contributions to the quality and economy of nursing services. Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients' conditions. Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records. Record patients' medical information and vital signs. Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient's condition. Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions. Direct or supervise less-skilled nursing or healthcare personnel or supervise the ED. Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans. Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity. Instruct individuals, families, or other groups on topics such as health education, disease prevention, or childbirth and develop health improvement programs. Prepare patients for and assist with examinations or treatments. Assess the needs of individuals, families, or communities, including assessment of individuals' home or work environments, to identify potential health or safety problems. Provide health care, first aid, immunizations, or assistance in convalescence or rehabilitation in locations such as schools, hospitals, or industry. Prepare rooms, sterile instruments, equipment, or supplies and ensure that stock of supplies is maintained .
