Wastewater Plant Operator (D) (Water Reclamation Facility)

Position will be open until filled. GENERAL PURPOSE: Under general supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled work in the operation of a Wastewater (W/W) treatment plant and related infrastructure systems, according to job specifications and technical codes. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Training will be provided. Monitors gauges, meters and electronic control panels; records readings and maintains shift log. Operates pumps, compressors, valves and other equipment to control and adjust flow and treatment processes. Observes variations in operating conditions; performs tests to determine processing requirements and reports recommendations to supervisor. Collects samples. Maintains plant work areas, tools and equipment in a safe and orderly condition; performs preventive maintenance and repair. Monitors and regulates chemical processes. Ensures that safety rules and regulations are followed; utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports safety hazards, equipment problems and emergency situations. Performs any and all related duties as needed. Must be able to work various shifts in a 24/7 operation. Regular and timely attendance is required. Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: High School diploma or equivalent. Required Licenses or Certifications: Raises given for various certifications . Must possess a valid driver license with a good driving record. Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Minimum Class D - Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator license from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) or acquisition of license within 6 months from hire. TCEQ -Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator license is required to be maintained in active compliant status at all times for position eligibility. Career path expectation: Due to state licensing requirements for this facility, operators will receive training, classes and preparation to progress certifications/licenses to a minimum of class B Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator. Continued position eligibility is contingent on candidates passing testing and obtaining class C and B licenses within 6 months from the time of TCEQ license testing qualification. Required Skill in: Performing basic W/WW plant operation activities. Performing and interpreting basic laboratory tests. Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands. Promoting and enforcing safe work practices. Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers. Effective verbal and written communications. Physical Demands / Work Environment: Work is performed in Water Utilities Department facilities; required to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
