Compliance Specialist

Description:
Essential Functions: This position will have responsibility for OMPA and OMPA member compliance with the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) bulk electric system reliability standards. NERC standards include many systems to demonstrate compliance. These systems include training programs, recordkeeping, testing of equipment, reporting of results, and maintaining schedules. The position will also assist with environmental and safety programs as needed. Candidate should have a basic understanding of the electric industry and terminology; knowledge of researching, evaluating, and prioritizing issues or specific situations; coordinating with their manager on an appropriate action/response; and able to communicate and exchange information. Working knowledge in auditing, compliance, operations and/or regulatory compliance is desirable. Candidate should be proficient in MS Software i.e., Excel, Word, SharePoint, and Teams; possess the ability to write reports and prepare documentation of activities and/or findings; include good judgement, personal motivation and the ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment; and strong verbal and written communication skills. Qualities needed are in depth organizational skills, recordkeeping skills, communication skills, ethics, and a compliance mindset. Additional functions include reviewing standards related to OMPA, gathering data for self-certifications, assisting with audits, maintaining compliance records, attending training, and assisting in other areas of compliance, environmental and safety programs where needed. Outreach and engagement with both regulatory and industry trade groups on a regular basis, including travel to such events. Education/Experience Requirements: Technical degree required in such disciplines as Engineering, Environmental Science, Law, Accounting, etc., plus 3 to 5 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
