Midland University, a private, faith based, liberal arts university in Fremont, Nebraska (just outside of metro Omaha), is seeking an Assistant/Associate Professor of Education to provide instruction and to serve as the Special Education Coordinator in the Walker School of Education. The Walker School of Education provides a Teacher Education Program fully accredited by the Nebraska Department of Education. Description of Key Responsibilities: Instruct courses that provide foundation and methods with a focus on special education. (approximately 24 credit hours /year). Participate in the supervision of students during field base experiences (FBE) and/or clinical experience. Develop and implement continuous improvement for curriculum, instruction and assessment that aligns with state standards. Mentor adjunct faculty and students. Collaborate and communicate with university staff and administration. Serve as the Special Education Coordinator responsible for data collection regarding program goals and for reporting data for state accreditation review when necessary. Assist with hiring and mentoring or adjunct staff. Participate in department and university wide meetings and professional development. Candidate Qualifications: A Master's Degree in Education is required, along with an active or past special education teaching endorsement. A Ph.D. or Ed.D. in education is preferred. Evidence of effective teaching in a special education setting is required; post-secondary teaching and development of curriculum experience is preferred. Have a minimum of 5 years of K-12 teaching experience. A valid driver's license and reliable transportation to be able to travel within the work day. The Ideal Candidate Will Be Able to Demonstrate: Understanding of and ability to integrate core education coursework and content (i.e. classroom management, instructional design, technology, assessment, and development) in a special education setting. Understanding of and ability to integrate methods coursework (i.e. science, math, reading, language arts, and social studies methods) in a special education setting. Demonstrate the knowledge/ability to integrate federal and state rules and regulations into special education courses. The ability to facilitate meaningful experiences and reflection for teacher candidates who are learning to respond to coaching, understand content, build learning communities, support all learners, plan and deliver effective instruction, and model professionalism. The ability to effectively work with a diverse, multi-cultural population with comfort, teaching effectively across the spectrum of special education.
