Homer Electric Association (HEA) is a member-owned electric utility serving the central and southern areas of the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. We are excited to be growing our Engineering team and are seeking an Engineer II/III to join the group. This will be a salaried (exempt) position with typical work hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following items are related to the Cooperatives needs for generation, transmission, substation, distribution, metering, SCADA, communication, and other systems and equipment as assigned.An Engineer II will assist in : Planning, designing, and specifications development for system equipment upgrades and repairs. Analyzing operating records to identify abnormal, deficient, undesirable, or unsafe conditions. Planning and designing revenue metering systems and substation upgrades. Performing protection studies and implementing standard procedures for protective setting changes. Developing long-range engineering plans, construction work plans, material specifications and engineering procedures. An Engineer III will act as the senior/lead in all the duties and responsibilities listed above for an Engineering II. EDUCATION, LICENSE & EXPERIENCE: Engineer II: ABET accredited bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field. Satisfactory completion of the Engineering Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam from a state licensing board, is preferred. Over three (3) years of progressively responsible electrical engineering experience, or over two (2) years of experience with satisfactory EI/EIT/FE completion. Engineer III: ABET accredited bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field. Four (4) years of progressively responsible electrical engineering experience is required. Satisfactory completion of the Engineering Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam from a state licensing board, is preferred. Professional Engineer (PE) license from a state licensing board, is preferred. Over six (6) years of progressively responsible electrical engineering experience may be substituted in lieu of degree. REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES: Must demonstrate the skills and results oriented attitude to implement management direction and achieve results with limited direction. Must have in-depth knowledge of three phase power flow and related engineering concepts. Must have a high level of knowledge of electrical system modeling. Must have the ability to apply logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions. Must be able to both train and direct work by Technicians on field equipment to provide technical insight and support maintenance, troubleshooting and commissioning activities. Ability to work with exponents and logarithms, linear and quadratic equations, statistical analysis, and other forms of advance math.
