WEBSTER CANTRELL YOUTH ADVOCACY POSITION DESCRIPTION Position : CCBYS Counselor Reports To : Director of Juvenile Delinquency Program BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION : Commit to provide services to high-risk juvenile offenders. INFORMATION PRIVACY AND SECURITY LEVEL: In accord with federal and state legislative mandates, individuals employed in this position are trained to, and function within a Level II-B security clearance for confidentiality of client protected health information, and other privileged information. Appropriate sanctions will be applied against employees who fail to comply with the privacy policies and procedures of the Agency. QUALIFICATIONS : Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree. To be at least 21 years of age. Some background experience with youth and families. Have a current Illinois Driver's license. Have own transportation and provide written proof of automobile insurance. Pass all agency required background check and CANTS. PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS REQURIED: Possess the ability to perform sitting, standing, and stooping in daily part-time employment. Ability to operate a motor vehicle during both day and night hours. Excellent proficiency in handwriting and computer use, and in the use of clear verbal and written communication skills. Have natural or corrected reasonably good vision and hearing, and the ability to use the telephone. The ability to move physically about the Agency's owned buildings and grounds, and to use stairways (especially in emergencies). Possess the ability to maintain calm efficiency and effectiveness in stressful and demanding situations. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To respond to calls from law enforcement personnel dealing with status offenders to prevent further police or court involvement and to defuse a crisis situation within the family. To prevent placement outside this household. If this becomes impossible, the worker will explore alternative placement, coordinate the youth's return home and help maintain the youth in their family. Maintain and update crisis service case files. Including: keeping current case notes, reporting forms, and referrals. Develop and update regularly a service plan with measurable goals and objectives. Refer youth and families to appropriate local helping agencies and community resources. Accompany youth and family to court hearings and testify when so required. Perform other duties as assigned.
