Therapeutic Foster Parent Foster Parents Needed in York, Cumberland, Sagadahoc, and Androscoggin Counties Woodfords Family Services is ready to train and license individuals and couples as Therapeutic Foster Parents. We offer support throughout the training and licensing process, as well as once a child or teen is placed in the home. You don't have to be perfect, to be a perfect foster parent for a Maine child or teen in need of a caring adult and a supportive home! There kids and teens in Maine who are waiting for an adult like you to offer care, support and a safe home during the most challenge time in their lives. About the person Woodfords wants to be one of our Therapeutic Foster Parents: You enjoy spending time with, and caring for kids or teens You are compassionate, energetic and would enjoy working within a team to care for a child placed in your home You are supportive, flexible, and have a passion for helping children in foster care and their families You have good verbal and written communication skills You are flexible, and an excellent problem solver You are patient, understanding and creative You are open, accept support and are willing to learn and grow in order to best support kids and teens in the foster care system You are interested in opening your own home to a child or teen in Maine's foster care system If this describes you, then explore the process to become a licensed Therapeutic Foster Parent with Woodfords! Therapeutic Foster Parents receive an annual tax-free stipend of $16,000 to $27,000 per child placed in the home. About the Role of a Woodfords' Therapeutic Foster Parent: As a Woodfords' Therapeutic Foster Parent: You are the primary caregiver to children with developmental disabilities who are unable to safely reside with their biological parents, family or legal guardian You provide a safe, and nurturing home while supporting family reunification & family visits You will be responsible to oversee medical appointments, medication administration, transportation to and from appointments, and activities, as well as the day-to-day and direct care of the child/children or teen/s placed by DHHS and Woodfords in your home You will also oversee the child's educational needs You will be a key member of the Therapeutic Foster Care Program working independently and cooperatively with a team. . We will teach you the skills and strategies needed to be successful a Therapeutic Foster Parent and will give you on-going support throughout the child's placement. Key Qualifications of a Therapeutic Foster Parent: May be married or single or partnered 21 years of age or older Have space in the home (can own or rent) for a child or teen Be in good physical and mental health Enjoy working with children and/or teens Possess effective parenting skills and be open to learning new skills Be creative and flexible Possess a willingness to work with birth parents, service providers and service agencies Must be committed and enjoy challenges Must successfully complete introductory training Have experience as state-licensed family foster parent (at least 1 year) or work experience (at least 6 months) with children and/or teens Must possess a willingness to grow as a parent and as an individual About Woodfords: Woodfords Family Services has been committed to the support and inclusion of people with special needs and their families since 1967.
