Position Summary Oversees the management of Organizational Patient Access, Patients Admissions, Patient Registration, and Scheduling. Develops, manages, and monitors operational budget for associated departments. Establishes and maintains department policy and procedures, objectives, patient satisfaction, and quality assurance programs for areas of oversight. Responsible for the certification of patient insurance coverage, patient screening, patient registration and collection of patient deductibles and coinsurance, and/or financial arrangements at point of service and point of service collection. Responsible for maintaining and enhancing department related information technology. Collaborates internally and externally to optimize patient experience and financial clearance. Essential Functions Develops and implements patient access experience best practices. Supervises, trains, and orients assigned personnel. Evaluates performance and recommends merit increases, promotions, and disciplinary actions. Organizes work and prioritizes work within the department to achieve maximum work efforts from caregivers. Efficiently maintains caregiver scheduling and optimizes labor productivity. Ensures the quality of work produced is within the best practice guidelines. Updates and formulates policies and procedures. Promotes, participates in, and facilitates patient satisfaction and quality improvement. Responds to requests and seeks customer feedback to improve services. Maintains knowledge of current Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance carriers, and State requirements to ensure proper registration of patient accounts. Maintains knowledge of current Joint Commission and other related quality and regulatory requirements and implements policies and procedures accordingly. Maintains information technology systems and initiates strategies for information technology and workflow improvements. Records and reports data related to patient access. Develops, implements, and maintains revenue-generated and point of service collection strategies related to patient access and patient capacity. Is a collaborative resource to internal department, external physician practices and community partners. Develop, implement, and maintain quality review and quality improvement processes. Develops, enhances, and maintains patient access processes at all MRH patient access points. Develops and implements departmental patient centric strategic plan and associated goals, and continually evaluates outcomes. Physical Demands and Working Conditions Physical Demand Characteristics: In an 8-hour work day, this position must be able to sit for four hours constantly, stand for four hours intermittently, and walk for four hours intermittently. The position requires frequent squatting, bending, and kneeling, occasional reaching, twisting, and stair climbing, and may experience occasional exposure to dust, fumes or gases. Employees in this position must be able to lift over 20-50 pounds 01-33% of the workday and 0-20 pounds 34-66% of the workday. Employees in this position must be able to carry up to 10 pounds frequently and 11-24 pounds occasionally. This position requires that the employee push and/or pull up to 10 pounds frequently and 11-34 pounds occasionally. Equipment used: Personal Computer, Computer Printer, Tablet, Fax Machine, Copier, Ten Key Adding Machine, and phone Visual Hearing and Dexterity Demands: Requires concentrated visual skills, finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination for computer typing and other written functions. Excellent hearing skills required to interpret verbal and telephone information. Working Conditions: Works in a clean, well-lighted, temperature controlled, ventilated area. May have exposure to communicable disease. Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, accounting, information technology or related field preferred. Master's degree in healthcare administration or business administration preferred. Current certification related to Patient Access required. Training and Experience: Four years of admissions experience with two years as a department manager or equivalent experience. Job Knowledge: Compassionate, patient experience focus. Strategic management and critical thinking skills. Information technology experience with emphasis in health care admission systems and electronic health record systems. Knowledge of insurance company operating procedures. Ability to solve problems and implement processes.
