Work Schedule for a Full-Time Career Specialist - Regional Substitute This position typically works forty hours a week Monday through Friday during the school year with flexibility during the summer. About Jobs for America's Graduates - Kansas (JAG-K) With our headquarters in Topeka, Kansas, JAG-K partners with Kansas schools to help students who are facing various challenges to be successful. We are a non-profit organization that offers an elective class to provide academic and other positive supports to ensure students earn their high school diploma. We have 104 programs located in 49 Kansas school districts and currently serve more than 5,500 students in Kansas and by educating students through career exploration opportunities and teaching soft skills, students are prepared to successfully transition to post-secondary education, military service, or into the workforce. A Day in the Life of a Career Specialist - Regional Substitute A Career Specialist - Regional Substitute is provided long-term and/or short-term program assignments where he or she works fulfills the job duties of a Career Specialist while working to provide consistency for students when a program is experiencing a vacancy or another Career Specialist is out temporarily. This individual identifies, recruits, and educates students who have difficulties between them and graduation while helping them make a successful transition from school to college, military, or career pathways with the use of the JAG model. These individuals develop p ositive relationships with students through utilizing the JAG Advantage of project-based learning, trauma informed care, and employer engagement to deliver student-centered programs with the goal of helping youth achieve their greatest potential. This individual is trained as a Career Specialist and responsible for all essential Career Specialist functions and may be assigned to programs on a long-term or short-term basis therefore job duties may differ based on assignment. These individuals instruct 35 to 60 students to ensure performance outcomes are met or exceeded utilizing project-based learning and JAG activities such as student conferences centered around career, civic, social, and service-learning, and career exploration. Career Specialists also deliver value-added instruction, support, and advocacy to graduates and non-graduates through follow-up services with students. Although this role may have its challenges, it can be very rewarding as positive relationships are developed with students and one sees the successful futures students go on to lead after they leave JAG-K.
