Director of Safety The Director of Safety provides safety leadership, support, and coordination for the Transit and Motorcoach Divisions of the Pacific Western Group of Companies. This position coordinates with the Directors of Safety for the other Lines of Business and is a member of, contributes to, and takes direction from the PWT Safety Council. This position can be based in Western Canada in one of the communities we operate. Relocation assistance is also available. Reporting This position reports to the Vice President of Transit; additionally, there are dotted line relationships There is one direct report Role Objectives and Responsibilities Support the operational leaders in meeting health and safety legislation objectives; ensure appropriate risk mitigation/control measures are developed and are in place Govern the health and safety management system including development, implementation, evaluating performance, and ensuring effective maintenance of standards within the Line of Business Support with investigating incidents to ensure timely implementation of corrective solutions Support for training requirements and presentations for health and safety obligations and incident prevention Liaise with the Training Department to ensure compliance to regulation and policy Support onboarding process to ensure compliance to critical employee safety acknowledgments Monitor operational compliance to policies, best practice, and regulations by assisting with risk management, audit review (COR/NSC/Internal) and action planning Develop business safety strategies to create more efficient operational workings, comply with health and safety practices and provide continuous improvement Provide health and safety leadership to operational, maintenance and administrative teams in ensuring sufficient due diligence is applied Stay up to date on and research relevant health and safety regulations, carrier regulations and industry best practices; apply industry knowledge.
