Seeking: Student Research Assistant for 2018 Faculty Sponsor: Dr. Oxana Palesh, PhD, MPH Department: Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science Contact Name: Cancer Survivorship Research Team Email: XXXX@stanford.edu Website: www.cancersurvivorship.stanford.edu The Cancer Survivorship Research Team (CSRT) at Stanford University is seeking applicants for a volunteer student research assistant position on an exciting clinical trial. We are accepting applications as of August 2018 and will begin interviewing on a rolling basis. Description of Research Project: As many as 80% of cancer patients experience sleep problems. We are conducting a study funded by the National Cancer Institute to test the efficacy of a brief behavioral therapy aimed at treating and preventing sleep difficulties in breast cancer patients. Applying both subjective and objective measurements, we hope to better understand the sleep problems that breast cancer patients encounter. Required Qualifications: Current Stanford University student Interest in cancer research/ medicine/ behavioral sciences Attention to detail Excellent communication skills Ability to work independently Recommended Qualifications: Previous research experience and/or demonstrated interest in the field Previous job experience Student Responsibilities: The primary function of the research assistant is to work closely with our team of research coordinators to fulfill detail-oriented data entry, administer cognitive assessments to cancer patients and survivors in a hospital-setting, and prepare study-related materials. Time Commitment: Given the specialized training and the nature of cancer research, we require a one-year minimum commitment with 6 hours per week between 9AM and 6PM, Monday-Friday. Shift hours can be determined upon hire. Value: Research Assistants will receive highly valuable research experience in a randomized controlled, clinical trial with various cancer populations. Research Assistants can expect to learn medical terminology while working on a multidisciplinary team that combines medicine, psychology, and neuroscience. Especially dedicated and interested students may have opportunities to work closely with our post-doctoral fellow, Dr. Mallory Cases in meeting manuscript and grant writing deadlines.
